A release record is narrower than an arrest record. It shows when a particular custodial booking ended and how the custodian recorded that end. For the Will County Adult Detention Facility, the Sheriff’s historical Press inquiry can attach an exact Release Date and time to a booking number. The booking date marks the start of that stay. A court disposition may explain the legal authority, but it is not the minute that physical processing finished.
“Released” does not always mean free in the community. The Sheriff may process a court-ordered pretrial release, completed local sentence, dismissal, or time-served outcome. The same closed booking can instead reflect transfer to IDOC, another county, or a federal authority. How Will County Custody Ends
The next search depends on the type of exit. Old Sheriff pages may still mention cash or credit bail, but Illinois changed its pretrial system on September 18, 2023. No public detail was found proving one standard release-reason label for every Will booking. The timestamp firmly ends the booking; the destination often needs a second source.

Illinois FOIA section 2.15 also addresses chronologically maintained arrest information. When available, it includes identity and photo, charges, arrest facts, and the date and time a person was received, discharged, or transferred. Safety, enforcement, security, juvenile, and court restrictions can still limit disclosure.
Request Will County Release Records
Use a formal request when the Press archive is incomplete, the release destination is important, or a durable agency response is needed. Will County Release Record Limits
Illinois FOIA creates access rights but does not make every custody record public forever. Section 2.15 supports prompt access to specified arrest information, including discharge or transfer time, while section 7 contains exemptions. Juvenile detention and proceedings are generally confidential. River Valley Juvenile Detention Center does not belong in the public adult inmate-search path.
Will County’s online iPublic court view is limited and expressly not the official court record. Sealed, expunged, and impounded material is restricted. Illinois Courts provides statewide petition forms, and 20 ILCS 2630/5.2 governs eligibility and effects. Sealing and expungement are different remedies. A missing booking or case may reflect spelling, portal scope, retention, sealing, expungement, or impoundment, not proof that custody never occurred.
Will County Court Release Interplay
The Twelfth Judicial Circuit record can explain why a jail stay ended. Search the Circuit Clerk’s iPublic system using the case information on the booking, then read docket entries for pretrial release, detention, dismissal, acquittal, plea, sentencing, custody credit, probation, or commitment to IDOC. Onsite public terminals offer fuller records and document images. Certified copies are preferable when the exact order matters.
The court event and jail event answer different questions. A judge’s order supplies legal authority. The Sheriff’s Release Date and time shows physical processing. A sentence to IDOC signals transfer rather than immediate community freedom, while time-served language can explain a local discharge. The Circuit Clerk is at 100 West Jefferson Street in Joliet, with public hours generally 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays except court holidays.

Will County Release Records After Sealing
Will County petitioners use the statewide Illinois expungement and sealing forms and file in each jurisdiction where the arrest or charge occurred. Acquittal, dismissal, release without charging, and reversed or vacated convictions may have no waiting period under the statute, while specified supervision categories have defined waiting periods. Eligibility remains tied to the exact record and disposition.
A removed online result cannot be reverse-engineered into a release finding. The person may have a sealed or expunged matter, the portal may omit older data, or the search terms may not match. Confirm the legal event through permitted court channels. No site or search tool should promise that every historical record remains visible.
Will County Jail Release Context
The Adult Detention Facility opened in March 1989. A $70 million expansion completed in May 2009 enlarged the building from about 156,000 to 318,000 square feet and raised stated capacity from 322 to more than 1,000. IDOC’s 2024 inspection separately lists its room and dormitory inventory and notes facility work. These figures describe physical scale, not current population or annual releases.
The ADF holds people awaiting proceedings and people serving local sentences generally up to one year. It is a Sheriff jail, not an IDOC prison. That distinction remains true even when a person is waiting for transfer to state custody. A release record comes from the custodian responsible for that episode.

Search Will County Released Inmates
Start with the custodian, not with geography. The Sheriff covers Will jail bookings. IDOC covers state custody, including people at NRC or Stateville. BOP covers federal sentences, while ICE and federal court records answer separate questions. This sequence avoids treating every Joliet-area facility as part of the county jail.

Will County Sheriff Release Search
The Public inquiry accepts Name, Subject Number, Booking Number, an In Custody selector, Booking From Date, Booking To Date, and a facility selector. Its default character is current custody. Booking date filters do not create a release-date window. A “No” value or missing name still needs a detail check.
The Press inquiry retains a larger historical subject set, photos, multiple bookings, and exact release timestamps. Search by exact name, compare subject and booking numbers, and use physical, charge, and docket context to avoid a same-name match. No official update cadence or archive-retention promise was found. IDOC Search for Will County Releases
The Illinois Department of Corrections search accepts Last Name, IDOC Number, or Birthdate. Partial last names are allowed, but an IDOC number is stronger. Open the detail and compare the person, photo and descriptors, Parent Institution, Offender Status, Location, county, and sentencing blocks before reading dates.

IDOC can return “not found” after full sentence or parole discharge. It also does not cover a jail-only sentence. Call IDOC Constituent Services at 217-558-2200 or request a record when final discharge must be confirmed.

Will County Release Supervision Checks
Illinois separates IDOC parole or mandatory supervised release from Will County court probation. IDOC’s Parole Division provides field supervision, while the Prisoner Review Board sets terms, handles specified hearings and violations, and may grant early or final discharge. Search IDOC for community-supervision status and Last Paroled Date, then call parole assistance at 800-666-6744 with the IDOC number.
Will County Adult Probation supervises court probation at 57 North Ottawa Street in Joliet, 815-727-8446. A person can receive probation after local custody without entering IDOC. The sentencing order in the Circuit Clerk file is the best route to that distinction. Absence from IDOC’s selected Wanted Fugitives page or PRB’s public revocation pages does not prove there is no warrant or violation.
Will County Release Alerts
Illinois VINE interfaces with county jail booking systems, IDOC, DHS, and circuit clerks. Will County specifically confirms that VINE can check custody and notify a registrant when someone leaves the Adult Detention Facility. Search the right person and agency, choose an offered phone, text, email, or app channel, and use the four-digit PIN for phone acknowledgment.
A VINE event can mean release or transfer. It may lag agency processing and is not a permanent certified record. Confirm the alert against the Sheriff release timestamp or IDOC status. The statewide assistance line is 1-866-566-8439, and Will’s local VINE information number is 815-740-5560. VINE does not replace BOP, ICE, or federal court sources.
Will County Release Assistance
IDOC’s 2024 jail inspection names the Center for Correctional Concerns as the ADF provider of social services and release assistance. The documented work includes counseling, literacy and education, substance-use programming, veteran outreach, religious services, and library access. This is a Will County-specific reentry layer rather than a generic directory.
Program participation does not establish that someone was released, and the inspection does not promise eligibility or a post-release outcome. It shows that release-oriented support exists within the facility. The Sheriff or program provider should confirm current availability for a particular person.
Will County Releases and Federal Custody
No active BOP institution or civil ICE detention facility was confirmed in Will County. A federal defendant may still be held temporarily in a local contract jail. Use the BOP locator for a sentenced federal person and the federal docket for USMS pretrial custody, since USMS has no public release locator.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator is separate. It covers current detainees and, according to ICE guidance, people released from ICE custody within about 60 days. Illinois’s Way Forward Act restricts covered state and local civil-immigration detention agreements, but the end of a criminal Sheriff booking still does not prove the person is outside all federal custody. Verify with the relevant agency instead of labeling a roster disappearance an ICE release.
Where Will County Release Records Appear
The system that held the person controls the most direct proof. A geographic link to Will County does not move a state or federal record into the Sheriff database.

Will County Release Facility Map
Will County Adult Detention Facility is the primary county jail and uses Sheriff release records. River Valley Juvenile Detention Center is confidential and outside the public adult search. Northern Reception and Classification Center is an IDOC statewide intake site where departure often means internal transfer. Stateville Correctional Center is an IDOC campus, not a county jail, and its changing operating status must be checked with IDOC.
NRC’s Joliet address does not imply a Will case or Will release. Likewise, Stateville parole and discharge information belongs in IDOC and PRB systems. Juvenile information must go through authorized family, counsel, agency, or juvenile court channels. Facility type determines both the lawful access boundary and the correct record custodian.
