Terms Entered in Search Tools
When you type a name, location, or other term into a search tool, the query is sent to the third-party provider that operates that search. We do not keep or log those search terms on our own systems. The provider’s privacy terms govern its receipt and handling of the query.
Emails and Contact Messages
If you send us an email or contact-form message, we retain the message and the details you provide so we can review and answer it. We do not share that correspondence outside our organization unless disclosure is required by law. Do not send sensitive identifiers or records that are not needed for the question.
Information Collected Automatically
Basic technical and usage information may be recorded when a page loads. This data helps operate the site and understand general use. It can include:
- Your Internet Protocol address.
- The browser name and version in use.
- Your device type and operating system.
- The pages viewed and time spent on them.
- The referring website, when one is supplied.
- The date and time of the request.
Cookies and Similar Storage
Cookies may be used to measure how visitors move through the site, remember limited preferences, and support analytics or advertising functions. You can block or remove cookies through browser controls. Some features may work differently or lose functionality when cookies are disabled.
How Information Is Used
Collected information is used for ordinary site operations and service delivery. Those purposes include:

- Sending search requests to the appropriate search partner.
- Learning which Will County release-record pages visitors find useful.

We do not use contact messages to alter Sheriff, court, IDOC, PRB, VINE, or other government records. Requests concerning those records must go to the government custodian.
Links Beyond This Site
Pages may link to the Will County Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, Illinois Department of Corrections, Prisoner Review Board, VINELink, federal locators, other government portals, and third-party search tools. Once you follow a link, the destination controls its own collection and use of data. Review that service’s privacy policy before supplying a name, identifier, email address, phone number, or other information.
Advertising partners may use cookies or related technology on their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select interest-based ads. Their tracking occurs under their systems and policies, not as a record stored directly by us.
When Information May Be Shared
We do not sell personal data. Information may still be disclosed to providers that perform a function needed to operate the site or when the law compels disclosure. Potential recipients include:
- Search partners that receive and process a submitted query.
- Analytics providers that measure site performance and use.
- Advertising networks that deliver or measure advertisements.
- Law enforcement or another government body acting under a valid subpoena, court order, warrant, or other lawful demand.
Each provider may process information under its own terms. We limit sharing to the service involved or the legal obligation presented.
Security Has Practical Limits
We use standard administrative and technical safeguards intended to reduce unauthorized access, misuse, or loss. No website, network, transmission method, or storage system connected to the internet is completely secure. We therefore cannot promise that information will never be intercepted, exposed, altered, or lost.
Visitors Under Eighteen
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. A parent or legal guardian who believes a minor submitted information may contact us through the Contacts page and request deletion. We will review and remove the information when reasonably verifiable and applicable.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may ask us to act on personal data we hold about you. Available requests may include:
- Receiving a copy of the personal information we maintain.
- Correcting information that is inaccurate.
- Requesting deletion of information we are not required to retain.
- Objecting to or opting out of certain processing where that right applies.
Send a request through the Contacts page with enough detail to locate the information. We may need to verify identity before acting. These rights concern data held by us. Illinois public records held by Will County or a state agency are governed by the relevant custodian, the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, court-access rules, and other applicable law.
Changes to This Notice
We may revise this Privacy Notice when practices, providers, or legal requirements change. An updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after publication means the revised notice applies from that date forward.
